Bill Drayton's Social Links
Bill Ashoka is an influential social entrepreneur and business man who founded Ashoka: Innovators for the Public, a nonprofit organization committed to discovering and guiding entrepreneurs across the globe. Born in 1943 in New York City, Drayton attended Harvard, receiving a BA in 1965. After that, he earned an MA from Balliol College and a JD from the Yale Law School in 1970. During his time at Harvard, he established the Ashoka Table, which brought key government, union, and church leaders together for off-the-record dinners and meetings. After receiving his JD, he worked as a consultant for McKinsey and Company, a position he held for almost 10 years.
Drayton is credited with popularizing the rise of the phrase “social entrepreneur”, a concept that was first put in print in 1972. In 2005, US News & World Report named Drayton as one of the year’s ‘Best Leaders’. He has won numerous awards and has been recognized by many for his efforts to find and support the world’s most influential entrepreneurs. In 2008, Drayton was named a ‘visionary’ and was listed amongst Utne Reader magazine’s “50 Visionaries Who Are Changing the World”.
