Ayah Bdeir's Social Links
Ayah Bdeir is a Canadian interactive artist, engineer and founder/CEO of LittleBits, an open source library of modular electronics that snap together with magnets. Born in 1982, Bdeir is considered one of the leaders of the open hardware movement and was named one of Fast Company’s “Most Creative People in Business” in 2013.
She studied at computer science and sociology at American University of Beirut and got her master’s in computing culture from MIT’s Media Lab in 2006. Since then, she has had several fellowships – including one at Eyebeam Art + Technology Center, at Creative Commons and the highly prestigious TED Fellowship (2012). She taught on the faculties at New York University and Parsons The New School for Design in 2009. She taught graduates courses in “Technology as Identity” at NYU and “Making Things Move” at Parsons.
In September 2011, Bdeir started littleBits Electronics, a startup based in New York with funding from Joi Ito, Nicholas Negroponte, Joanne Wilson and others. Littlebits was named one of CNN’s top 10 Emerging Startups to watch.
