Arthur Guinness was born in 1724 in Celbridge, Ireland, and died in 1803. He was educated at the University of London. With a small inheritance he was given by his godfather, Arthur Price, he invested in a Dublin brewery. He had learned the art of brewing from his father and from Arthur Price. At first, the brewery was located in County Kildare, but then the brewery was later located at St. James Gate and he took a 9,000 lease on the property.

He was active in politics and affairs of his church. The father of 21 children was a Protestant Anglo-Irish. He enjoyed setting up Irish Sunday Schools in his spare time and gave back to his community. In 2009, the still profitable company, set up the Arthur Guinness Fund. This fund honors Guinness and is to be used to benefit those who use skills and opportunities in order to benefit their community.
