Anil Ambani is an Indian businessman, investor, and philanthropist who serves as the chairman of Reliance Group. The son of, Dhirubhai Ambani, Anil joined Reliance Industries (which was founded by his father) in 1983 as co-chief executive officer. Since joining Reliance, Ambani is credited with leading numerous financial innovations in the Indian capital market.

Born in Mumbai in 1959, Ambani helped lead India’s first foray into overseas capital markets through various offshoots of Reliance. Under his lead, Reliance earned roughly US$2 billion since 1991 in overseas financial markets. Today Ambani is listed as the head for numerous corporations within the Reliance Group, including Reliance Capital, Reliance Infra, Reliance Power, and Reliance Communications. As of 2014, Ambani’s networth is $5.9 billion, according to Forbes.

Ambani received a Bachelor of Arts and Science from the University of Bombay and went on to earn an MBA from the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School. Upon his father’s death in 2002, Ambani and his brother Mukesh, India’s richest man, entered into a bitter feud which ultimately led to the split of the Reliance Group. With their mother as the delegator, Anil and Mukesh were awarded control of different services within Reliance. Mukesh ended up with the core energy business whereas Anil was awarded telecoms, financial services, and power businesses.

In addition to his work with Reliance, Ambani is one of India’s largest producers of Bollywood films. His entertainment interests include nearly 50 FM radio stations, numerous DTH businesses, animation studios, and several multiplex cinema theaters throughout India.

They key to be a successful businessman and properly managing people is to make a point to share emotion and feelings. It is important that there is not too much emphasis placed on money, even though it may be the common denominator.

To me, business and advertising are all about understanding and taking into consideration culture.

My father built, from scratch, one of India’s largest modern enterprises. From witnessing this and later working with him, I discovered the necessity to work hard, believe in yourself, take the initiative, and dream big.
