Profile

Craig Bouchard is an entrepreneur, inventor, and New York Times best-selling author. He co-founded three metals companies that achieved more than $1 billion of revenue within 18 months. In 2018 he was a finalist for the prestigious S&P Platts Award for the CEO of the Year in the global metals industries. He holds US Patent 4,212,168 and has patents pending in the largest countries in the world.

He has written three books. One book, The Caterpillar Way. Lessons in Leadership, Growth, and Shareholder Value" was co-authored with Dr. James V. Koch in 2014. It rose to No. 1 on the Barnes & Noble Best Seller List. It also was No. 8 on the New York Times Best Seller list in the business category.

Companies and Investments

Craig Bouchard has founded five companies, three of which were metals companies. He founded the first metals company, Esmark Inc., in 2003. Esmark grew from bringing in $4 million in revenue in 2003 to nearly $4 billion in 2008. Its stock became the highest appreciating stock on the NYSE or Nasdaq for the full year 2008. In the process, Craig also orchestrated the first "reverse hostile tender merger" in Wall Street history, removing the board and management team of a Nasdaq company at its annual meeting.

Currently, he is the founder and CEO of Ecolution kWh. Craig Bouchard established the company with two purposes. The first purpose is to achieve a very high internal rate of return for shareholders. The second is to accomplish net-zero emissions in an industry known for high pollution of the environment. The company's technology is designed to turn the combustion engine and electrical vehicle truck/trailer fleet into an electric power company. This company will have nearly net-zero carbon emissions. Ecolution kWh revolutionizes the transportation/road logistics industry because its technology creates energy inside a trailer while it is in motion. This creation of energy materially limits the requirement to stop an electric truck for a recharge. Several trailers together also can create enough energy to manufacture the product in the factory. Alternatively, multiple trailers also can generate enough energy to power the factory on the receiving end of the delivery.

Ecolution kWh is creating a just-in-time zero carbon emission floating electric grid that can replace the aging electric grid. It replaces the old grid with a new grid that allows an industry to move the electricity to where it is needed quickly. The new grid does not need significant capital expenditures to build new transmission lines. At scale, Ecolution kWh can become the largest power company in the world without requiring major capital expenditures.

Craig and Ecolution kWh developed the Module Active Response System (MARS) and received the patent for it. MARS represents the combination of global patents currently issued to or pending for Ecolution kWh. It applies to existing truck trailer components and other new components that the company may create. It also applies to the proprietary software application that will govern the creation of electricity within the vehicle.

MARS provides electricity to the electric truck to allow it to increase its range. MARS increases range by storing the energy generated during travel and then redistributing the energy to the electric truck for re-use. MARS also is an energy storage unit. As a storage unit, the MARS trailer is not limited to providing electricity to the electric truck. It can provide energy to anything that plugs into it. Also, the MARS trailer generates energy when a truck of any type (such as hydrogen or diesel) hauls it.

Craig serves as a member of the Board of Directors of New York REIT and has been a member of the Board of Trustees of Boston University and The University of Montana Foundation. Craig Bouchard is currently a member of the Leadership Board of Athletics at Duke University.

Generally, hard work and bright ideas [make me successful], though I know a major part of my success has been having a strong and talented team behind me. I’ve started three companies that went from almost no revenue to over a billion in revenue inside 18 months each... That’s all about the team and picking great people who execute a plan.

It is very important for entrepreneurs and large companies to know how to allocate capital. It is the most important performance metric. I would say in a large corporation with 500 people managing those metrics at least 450 do not know what they are doing. They do not allocate capital properly. I allocate capital extremely well. We don’t make any purchases without 20% per annual cash ROI. When we allocate capital well, our investors will do well. One of my companies has a public stock and it was the highest appreciating stock in the United States on all exchanges. These kinds of things turn into real money and real returns for sure.

In our world the most important quality to have, and the strongest most powerful emotion to have, is kindness. So, if you want to be the most powerful person you have to be kind. If you walk around the streets you may not see people behaving that way. But you have to rise above it. I know most people will not agree with me on that, but I know it to be true.

If you want to become successful, my advice is to keep your vision pristine, with eyes on the prize.
