Cheryl Burgess is a co-founder of Black Opal Beauty and the founder and president of the Center for Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery in Washington, D.C.
In 1994, three creative forces combined their passion for beauty and their joint knowledge of issues specific to skin of color to develop Black Opal.

(With Burgess as the Doctor.) Together, they developed skincare products to service skincare needs of skin of color for men and women.
After earning her medical degree from Howard University, Burgess completed an internship in internal medicine and a residency in dermatology at Howard University Hospital. She is a board certified dermatologist and a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology. She is also a member of the American Academy of Dermatology, the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery, and the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery.
