In 1994 Bill Whyte owned a small contracting company that specialized in building sturdy homes. These homes built for New England winters, were non-toxic. His experience from building in cold weather caused his hands to crack and bleed. He could not find a balm, which would soothe his hands. When he started wrapping his hands with olive oil, socks, and plastic bags, his wife challenged him to create balm something better. At the beginning of 1995, he began to work on his olive oil and beeswax formula. He and his wife distributed the first batch to hardware stores, lumberyards, health food markets, and general stores. The balm was actually made in their home. The company no longer runs from the family home, but instead from a new facility in their hometown of Gilsum, New Hampshire. The new facility features an Ecology Center that holds various workshops throughout the year. The company is USDA certified organic and all about being environmentally conscious. They use their mascot badger on the education page in order to give tips on living a natural life. The company has plans as of 2015 expand their facility to continue growth.

Lessons Learned

I have learned many lessons from running my own business. I believe that natural ingredients make the best products. I believe in living a clean life and offering my employees a free organic lunch each day. I have learned that my work crew is also like my family. If you treat the earth and the people in it nicely, the world will be a better place.

Inspiring Quotes

We developed a mission for our company which was really two-tiered – create healing products and cultivate healthy business practices.

Bill Whyte's Quotes

When I was a kid I checked out the fragrance of every stray blossom, fruit, leaf and herb I came across. When I was 12 we visited Old Sturbridge Village in Massachusetts, and a young woman guided me about the colonial herb gardens and explained both the medicinal and aesthetic properties of each herb. I fell in love with both the guide and the herbs that day. Now, so many years later I get to experience some of the finest essential oils and herbal extracts the world has to offer.

Our philosophy flows from the ground up. We believe in using botanical ingredients that are grown in healthy soil and processed simply without the use of chemicals. Ingredients like these are filled with life force. They make for better products, for healthier people, and for a healthier planet.
