Add Extra Value Barbara started The Corcoran Group in the 1970s to do real estate brokering, but also began publishing "The Corcoran Report", a newsletter on New York City real estate trends, around the same time. As an insider’s data-driven analysis of the real estate market, the report put her company on the map, giving it the authoritative voice it needed to grab the attention of the press and the industry. Over time, "The Corcoran Report" has become regarded as the barometer of the New York real estate market. By adding extra value, Barbara was able to gain another edge over the competition.
Think creatively to seize opportunity Barbara notes that the first time she met Donald Trump, she had produced a report called the Top 10 Condominium Survey in New York, and his building was near the bottom, which made him very upset. She quickly thought up a solution. Instead of looking at what a room would sell for, the way it was done then, they could calculate price per square foot, which would put him on top. This turned Trump into her biggest advocate. The Right Place At the Right Time Barbara began a real estate brokerage in New York City in the mid 1970s. This was a period when NYC began transforming from a rental town to a sale town. Barbara was able to capitalize on this new trend and build The Corcoran Group into the leading brokerage. NYC also saw wave after wave of real estate buyers, from the Japanese, to the Taiwanese, to the Germans, and later on the Russians. This has fueled a real estate market with its ups and downs but largely remained booming."

Barbara Ann Corcoran's Quotes
|“||Protect the optimism of your firm. The minute I spotted a chronic complainer, I would fire them. I did not care how much money they brought in because negativity kills optimism and belief in the future.||”|
|“||Business plans are overrated. You are better off having a picture of what you want in your head. Half of business is planning, and half is reacting. It is always changing.||”|
