Antony “Tony” Ressler is an American businessman and the co-founder of Apollo Global Management, a successful private equity firm. Born to a Jewish family in 1960, Ressler received a bachelor’s degree from Georgetown University and an MBA from Columbia University Graduate School of Business. Upon graduation he went to work for Drexel Burnham Lambert, eventually becoming Senior Vice President of the Firm. In 1990 he co-founded his first business, Apollo Global Management. Headquartered in New York City, Apollo also has offices in Los Angeles, Houston, London, Frankfurt, Luxembourg, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Mumbai.

In 1997 Ressler founded another company, Ares Management, which is a publicly traded global alternative asset management firm. In 2005 Ressler was a part of an investment group (along with his brother) that purchased Major League Baseball’s Milwaukee Brewers. In 2015, Ressler (along with Grant Hill) purchased the National Basketball Association’s Atlanta Hawks.

In 2015, the company was managing more than $162 billion of investor commitment, including real estate funds and private equity. Some of the most notable companies owned by Apollo include Norwegian Cruise Line, American Idol, and Claire’s.

Ressler also has his hand in numerous philanthropic ventures, including the Painted Turtle Camp, a foundation that takes children with chronic illnesses on outdoor adventures and camping trips.
