Annie Withey is the co-founder of Annie’s Homegrown.
In 1989, Withey co-founded Annie’s Homegrown, Inc. with Andrew Martin with the goal of making a healthy and delicious macaroni and cheese for families. She wanted to show by example that a successful business could also be socially responsible.
Withey chose Bernie, her pet rabbit, to be the brand’s “Rabbit for Approval,” and she put her own address and phone number on each box to encourage customers to connect with her.
Today, Withey has returned to her organic farming in Connecticut. There, she lives with her husband and two daughters, and she grows a wide variety of vegetables and flowers for her local co-op and farmer’s market. Withey remains involved in the business, responding to customers and writing the personal letters customers will find on the back of their boxes. Withey also remains the inspirations and corporate conscience for the company the entire family of Annie’s products.

Annie’s Homegrown (co-founder)
Be true to yourself. It is possible to build a socially conscious AND successful business. Sure, it’s difficult, but nothing is more rewarding than realizing that I built something that not only makes people happy but also represents my values. I never sold out. Fight for what you believe in.
