Alec McNayer is the founder and chief operating officer of McBeard Media, a social media creative agency.
McNayer and his business partner Alan Beard are the 1-2 punch of McBeard Media, a creative and copywriting shop. Together, they’ve worked with clients like Nokia, Hewlett-Packard, Janus Capital, Alcatel-Lucent, UCLA, Pepperdine University, Man Theatres, and the ABC Broadcast Network. They created the Historical Tweets blog in late 2008, and five million page views later, they got a book deal.
The idea for the company came when the two of them met at Pepperdine University. In 2008, both men were freelancing independently. McNayer had sold a comedy script to ABC. Beard was doing big-brand marketing strategy and copywriting. During a conversation, they devised a creative idea that launched their future in a bigger way than they ever imagined.
Previously McNayer worked with all-star writer/producer Bob Gustafson to run Spach Shank Media, a production company that created online and television entertainment, including the award-winning Flipper Nation, a pilot concept for ABC, and the Battlestar Galactica parody web series My Roommate the Cylon.
Since then, McBeard has produced more than 200 social media campaigns for well-known films and television brands like 20th Century Fox, Universal, Sony, Disney, ABC and Warner Bros. Their firm continues to expand and currently include 80 employees of which about halfare Pepperdine alumni, where both founders graduated from. Beard and McNayer are proud of McBeard’s supportive family environment despite having no corporate office — everyone works from home.
